Bringing hope in the darkness this holiday season!

Situational Update December 1-15:

Most of Ukraine’s population now live in the dark, as electrical grids and water supplies continue to be targeted by missile strikes [below, right]. Generators are used primarily to support Kyiv, ensuring priority operations continue and the capital remains a beacon of light in the war. Civilian homes and apartments are the last to receive power, so millions are without light, and cities as far west as Liviv, are now rationing water supplies. Power cycling means delayed and bottlenecked borders, as processing takes longer and lack of electricity demands analog methods of border control.

New Partner Feature: Zimmer Biomet

Zimmer biomet

This week, we moved our first shipment of trauma surgery medical technology to Ukraine on behalf of Zimmer Biomet — a new donating partner. With their mission to alleviate pain and improve the quality of life for people around the world, we couldn’t be more excited to work alongside them!

This particular shipment included Zimmer Biomet’s Holo-lenses, a mixed reality tech that merges real and virtual worlds and allows top surgical experts from around the world to support Ukrainian doctors and care teams, educating, collaborating, and assisting with complicated, war-time treatments.

Our operations team reported the hospitals who received the new technology are currently in desperate states:

Ambulances arrive and depart around the clock, due to the high number of critical injuries; while doctors and surgeons are limited by their out-dated equipment — most of it from the Soviet-era.

Needless to say, Zimmer Bioment’s cutting-edge technology and connection to surgical experts is now saving lives in Ukraine, and supporting the education and improvement of their medical capacity.

Our shipping and operations teams worked extremely hard on this shipment, ensuring it made it through Polish customs in record time, and verifying delivery first-hand to ensure each hospital received their part of the million-dollar shipment.

We’re deeply grateful to Zimmer Biomet, and the leadership of RJ Hall, for the ongoing opportunity to partner together to save lives. An additional huge shout out to Joe and Tony on the Weatherman team, for their whole-hearted commitment to see this delivery through to its designated hospitals.

High-Power Generators, Ambulances and an Expanding German Aid Network!

Last week, high power generators were delivered throughout Ukraine, with more on their way from Germany! Our partners, the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) — the federal civil protection organization of Germany — have already provided: 3 generators for Odesa, 4 to Mykolaiv generators.

These 7 generators alone are equivalent to a total of almost 1,100,000 Euros! Two more generators are on their way next week for delivery to Kherson and Kharkiv — all in support of the city’s most needed services.

This week, two ambulances were also donated by the city of Hanover, Germany — with 14 more technical vehicles, ranging from water treatment to medical vehicles — heading for the Tulcea Humanitarian Logistics Hub to send on to Ukraine this month!

In addition, a MAN truck with strategically important cargo is being sent to Mykolaiv to support city clean up. Such equipment is extremely necessary for for clearing building rubble and clearing roads for emergency service vehicles.

Thank you THW and City of Hanover for your generous donations and support to the people of Ukraine!

Preserving Ukraine’s Cultural Heritage

One of the most important partnerships we have cultivated over the last 8 months has been one with the Swiss Foundation, SKKG Stiftung für Kunst, Kultur und Geschichte.

This month, they have sent through another truck of preservation materials to ensure paintings, monuments, historical and cultural objects can be saved. Preservation of the cultural heritage of Ukraine, is a reflection of Ukrainian’s strong ties to their nationality, state and rich history. These materials will go to over 50 museums this winter, to protect against the risks posed by cold, wet weather conditions. We are deeply grateful to SKKG for their support honored to help preserve Ukrainian culture!

Emergency Medicine Truck for Ladyzhyn

About 2 months ago, the bombing of the Ladyzhenskaya power plant plunged the city of Ladyzhyn and its 18,000 residents into darkness. Their medical and emergency services have worked around the clock in darkness and cold, trying to protect people from the risks associated with the lack of heat in winter, because the temperature in homes dropped to 46F⁰/8С⁰, and thanks to their efforts, coordination and coordinated work, they have succeeded in saving many lives. But as winter pushes temperatures down further, there is growing need for additional food rations, necessary medicines, and protection against hypothermia. Our Tuclea Hub team heard about the need and rallied to put together a truck of supplies for them, loading a truck with medicine for civilians and handouts for medical institutions — these were all received and distributed by our local partners from the "Tyho" (meaning Peace in Ukrainian) Charitable Foundation.
